Riau Smallholder FFB Price Tops IDR 4,000/kg at IDR 4,007.05 for 8–14 April 2026

Riau's Plantation Office set the top FFB price at IDR 4,007.05 per kg for 8–14 April 2026, a second weekly rise on the back of higher CPO and kernel prices.

Pekanbaru — The price of oil palm fresh fruit bunches (FFB) for independent smallholders in Riau has passed IDR 4,000 per kilogram for the 8–14 April 2026 pricing period. The Riau Plantation Office (Disbun) set the top price, which applies to 9-year-old palms, at IDR 4,007.05 per kg. That is up IDR 39.23, or 0.99%, from the previous week. The price for plasma partner farmers rose more sharply, by IDR 124.79 or 3.16%, to IDR 4,075.41 per kg.

A second weekly rise in a row

This increase follows a gain the week before. For 1–7 April 2026, ANTARA reported that the price for 9-year-old palms owned by independent smallholders rose IDR 125.13, or 3.26%, to IDR 3,967.83 per kg. The plasma partner price that week rose IDR 64.13, or 1.65%, to IDR 3,950.63 per kg.

Across the two weeks, the independent smallholder price rose by about IDR 164 per kg in total. The plasma price rose by almost IDR 189 per kg.

Driven by CPO and kernel prices

Defris Hatmaja, head of processing and marketing at the Riau Plantation Office, said the FFB increase came from higher selling prices for crude palm oil (CPO) and palm kernels. For 8–14 April, the CPO price used in the calculation was IDR 16,041.67 per kg and the kernel price was IDR 15,760 per kg. A week earlier, CPO stood at IDR 15,663.50 per kg and kernels at IDR 15,385 per kg.

The IQPlus/ANTARA reports for both periods give inconsistent figures for the size of the CPO and kernel increases. For 8–14 April, for example, the CPO increase appears as IDR 271.48 in one passage and IDR 507.28 in another. For that reason, this article cites only the price levels, which are consistent throughout. Calculated directly from those levels, CPO rose by about IDR 378 per kg and kernels by about IDR 375 per kg over the week.

Defris added that the provincial government keeps improving how prices are set, so that the process follows regulations and is fair to both independent smallholders and plasma partners. "The improvement in price-setting governance is a serious effort," he said. In the previous week's report, he credited support from the Riau provincial government and the Riau High Prosecutor's Office. He said better price governance should raise farmers' incomes and welfare.

How does this compare with the 2022 record?

The IDR 4,000 mark matters psychologically to Riau farmers. Comparisons with the earlier record need care, though, because the age groups used as a reference are different. In March 2022, ANTARA, carried by Republika, reported a record Riau FFB price of IDR 4,183.51 per kg for 10–20-year-old palms in the 9–15 March 2022 period. That rise was driven by a surge in the Malaysian benchmark CPO price amid disruption to global vegetable oil supplies. The April 2026 figure is the top price for 9-year-old palms, so the two numbers cannot be compared directly.

Riau's prices are set for one week at a time and updated every week based on CPO and kernel selling prices. The Disbun price is the reference for buying FFB from partner plantations. Independent farmers who sell through middlemen may receive a different price at the farm gate. A summary of the latest palm oil and biodiesel prices is available on our prices page.
