Jakarta — PT Elnusa Petrofin, a subsidiary of PT Elnusa Tbk within Pertamina's Upstream Subholding, made its first delivery of industrial B50 biodiesel (Biosolar Industri B50) from the Indonesia Bulk Terminal (IBT) Pulau Laut fuel terminal in South Kalimantan on Thursday, 2 July 2026. The first cargo went to the vessel OB Ocean Brave for customer VHS Patra Logistik, a day after the terminal received B50-specification FAME on the vessel MT Ocean Link on 1 July 2026.

According to the company's official statement, reported by Investortrust, Republika and Metrotvnews on Friday, 3 July 2026, the move follows ESDM Ministerial Decree No. 257.K/EK.01/MEM.E/2026 requiring 50% biodiesel to be blended into diesel, with funding channelled through the Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDP).

A seaborne supply chain: FAME in, B50 out by ship

The whole first cycle at IBT Pulau Laut ran by sea. The terminal receives FAME and diesel, blends them and then supplies the blend to industrial customers, mainly in mining. The sequence was:

  • Wednesday, 1 July 2026 — first receipt of B50-spec FAME on the vessel MT Ocean Link.
  • Thursday, 2 July 2026 — first delivery of industrial B50 to the vessel OB Ocean Brave for VHS Patra Logistik.

This matters because maritime logistics was a pain point under B40. In July 2025, EBTKE Director General Eniya Listiani Dewi cited limited transport modes, limited ship facilities (particularly pump flow rates), and limited storage tanks, piping and blending facilities at fuel terminals as constraints that had to be resolved before B50, detikFinance reported.

Automatic blending at 250–1,000 kL an hour

The terminal, operated by Elnusa Petrofin, is equipped with an Automatic Inline Blending (ILB) system that mixes FAME and diesel automatically inside the pipeline. Its flow capacity is put at 250 to 1,000 kilolitres per hour. Blending takes place before the product is delivered to customers.

Elnusa Petrofin President Director Doni Indrawan described the B50 mandate as a strategic step to strengthen national energy security and said the company is proud to be part of the Pertamina Group ecosystem. He added that the company is committed to operational excellence and Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) standards and will strengthen its role through infrastructure development, according to Metrotvnews and Republika.

Part of B50's industrial rollout

The Pulau Laut deliveries coincided with the start of B50 in the retail network. On 1 July 2026, Pertamina Patra Niaga said 29 of its 126 terminals were ready to supply B50 in the first phase, with the number set to rise gradually during the transition, Antara reported. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) also said heavy equipment, locomotives, vessels and specialised mining and agricultural machinery were among the segments that had undergone compatibility testing.

Elnusa Petrofin said the programme aims, among other things, to increase the use of domestic biofuels, reduce reliance on imported fossil energy, support decarbonisation targets and add value to the national palm oil industry. Details of the mandate are available on our biodiesel regulation page.
