Oxidation stability
Oxidation stability is biodiesel's resistance to oxidation during storage; for B50 the requirement was reported to rise to 900 minutes from 720 minutes.
Unsaturated esters in FAME can be oxidised by air, heat and metals, forming acids and sediment. It is measured in minutes in a specific test (induction period); the longer, the more stable.
It matters because storage and distribution chains are long. Related: water content & sludge and quality standards.
