ISPO (Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil)
ISPO (Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil) is the Indonesian government's palm oil sustainability certification system, mandatory for oil palm plantation businesses.
ISPO is set out in a Presidential Regulation and assesses legality, plantation practices, environmental management and social responsibility. Unlike the voluntary, multi-stakeholder RSPO, ISPO is mandatory nationally.
ISPO certification matters for biodiesel because CPO feedstock comes from oil palm estates; traceability issues also arise under the EUDR. Check the official ISPO site for the latest requirements.
