Palembang — South Sumatra's provincial price-setting team set fresh fruit bunch (FFB) prices for partner growers with oil palms aged 10–20 years at IDR 3,541.39 per kilogram for 16–31 October 2026. The meeting took place on Monday, 19 October. Sawit Indonesia reported the precise figure, while Bisnis.com rounded it to IDR 3,541. This is a price determination for a specified grower category, not a universal transaction price for all independent growers or mills.
Crude palm oil in the price formula
According to Sawit Indonesia's account of the provincial meeting, the average crude palm oil (CPO) price used in the calculation was IDR 14,324.39 per kilogram. Other reported components were a palm-kernel price of IDR 12,150.16 per kilogram, a K index of 92.17%, and a shell value of IDR 14.59 per kilogram. Bisnis.com reported the same components with the CPO and kernel prices rounded to IDR 14,324 and IDR 12,150. These are inputs to a regional FFB price calculation, not daily national CPO tender prices.
Bisnis.com put the previous period's CPO component at IDR 16,190 per kilogram, pointing to a decline in that component. But the FFB calculation also draws on kernel sales and the K index. A change in CPO alone therefore cannot reconstruct the amount paid to each grower. Readers comparing these figures with CPO market prices should distinguish the period-based provincial formula from daily trading quotations.
Reports disagree on the size of the fall
The two reports published on 19 October agree on the new price for palms aged 10–20 years, but differ on its change from the first half of the month. Sawit Indonesia reported a fall of IDR 225.50 per kilogram. Bisnis.com reported a decline of IDR 211 from what it described as a previous price of IDR 3,752 per kilogram. Because the reported comparison figures differ, Media Biodiesel is not presenting either change as an uncontested single figure. The new price itself is the common finding, with the unrounded amount given as IDR 3,541.39.
This distinction matters when comparing grower income across price-setting periods. The determination applies to a particular palm age bracket and partner-grower arrangement. Actual receipts can also depend on harvest volume and sale conditions. Neither report provides individual transaction records, so a provincial reference-price change should not be converted into an income estimate for every South Sumatran grower.
Reading the biodiesel connection
FFB is upstream of CPO production, and CPO has several uses, including biodiesel feedstock. The South Sumatra determination is therefore a useful indicator on the supply side, but it does not establish biodiesel production costs or the retail price of subsidised biodiesel blend (Biosolar). Nor does a movement in one regional price-setting period demonstrate that biodiesel demand caused growers' prices to rise or fall. Both news accounts focus instead on the CPO, kernel and K-index components in the regional calculation.
For readers tracking FFB prices, the age bracket, grower category and effective dates are as important as the headline number. Sawit Indonesia said the next price-setting meeting was scheduled for 9 November 2026. That is a reported schedule, not a newly determined price. Until the next result is released, the IDR 3,541.39 figure should be read specifically as the partner-grower determination for 16–31 October.
