Padang — Reports that oil palm fresh fruit bunch (FFB) prices in West Sumatra have started to decline are confirmed. The reference price for plantations aged 10–20 years was set at IDR 3,764.98 per kilogramme for 8–14 October 2026, down IDR 201.96, or approximately 5.09%, from IDR 3,966.94 in the 1–7 October period.

The figure came from the West Sumatra provincial FFB pricing committee meeting held on 13 October 2026. InfoSAWIT, Sawit Indonesia and Jambi Ekspres each reported the IDR 3,764.98 figure based on the provincial pricing minutes.

The decline is confirmed, but published reports contain errors

MediaBiodiesel’s review identified two presentation errors in secondary reporting. The headline of InfoSAWIT’s 15 October report described the second October price as having “increased”, even though the figure in the article was lower than the first October price previously published by the same outlet.

Sawit Indonesia described the IDR 201.96 decline as approximately 8.70%. MediaBiodiesel’s recalculation shows that IDR 201.96 divided by the previous IDR 3,966.94 price equals about 5.09%. The conclusion that the price fell is therefore correct, but the percentage consistent with the two published price figures is 5.09%, not 8.70%.

The movement extended the correction seen at the start of October. For 1–7 October 2026, the 10–20-year price had already fallen by IDR 20.33, or around 0.51%, to IDR 3,966.94 per kilogramme. West Sumatra’s reference price therefore declined in two consecutive pricing periods.

CPO, palm kernel and the K Index also weakened

The components used in the formula moved lower. The crude palm oil price for the 8–14 October calculation was IDR 14,831.27 per kilogramme, down IDR 723.11, or around 4.65%, from IDR 15,554.38 in the previous period.

The palm kernel price declined from IDR 13,124.34 to IDR 12,506.95 per kilogramme, a reduction of IDR 617.39 or approximately 4.70%. The K Index also decreased from 94.34% to 93.90%. These movements put downward pressure on FFB prices across all plantation age groups.

For 8–14 October, three-year-old plantations were priced at IDR 2,959.82 per kilogramme. The rates increased with plantation age to IDR 3,755.07 for nine-year-old palms and peaked at IDR 3,764.98 for the 10–20-year group. They then declined to IDR 3,621.88 for 21-year-old palms and IDR 3,354.06 for 25-year-old palms.

The reference price may differ from farmers’ transactions

The provincial determination is a reference for growers covered by the formal partnership pricing mechanism. Actual prices received by farmers may differ because of fruit quality, ripeness, transport distance, deductions, partnership arrangements and individual mill policies.

The IDR 3,764.98 figure should therefore not be interpreted as the price received by every oil palm grower in West Sumatra. Readers can monitor provincial updates through MediaBiodiesel’s daily FFB price page.

Review conclusion: the claim that West Sumatra’s oil palm FFB price has started to fall is true. The reference rate for 10–20-year-old plantations declined from IDR 3,966.94 to IDR 3,764.98 per kilogramme for 8–14 October 2026. The reduction calculated from those figures is 5.09%.
