Dumai CPO Set at IDR 15,200 as Malaysian Futures Rise, with Benchmark Caveats

Jakarta — KPBN's crude palm oil (CPO) tender price in Dumai was set at IDR 15,200 per kilogram on Friday, 23 October 2026, according to InfoSAWIT. The previous day's Dumai tender was withdrawn after a highest bid of IDR 15,118. Separately, Bernama reported that Bursa Malaysia's January 2027 futures contract closed at RM4,818 per tonne on Friday. These benchmarks both rose, but they represent different markets, currencies and pricing mechanisms.

InfoSAWIT described the Dumai change as IDR 82 per kilogram, or 0.54%, against Thursday's highest bid. That is not a like-for-like comparison of two completed sales: Thursday's tender did not conclude in a transaction. Readers of the CPO price tracker should check whether a displayed figure is a bid, an agreed tender price or a futures settlement.

Domestic tender prices and the withdrawn bid

InfoSAWIT's KPBN list for Friday placed Franco Dumai at IDR 15,200 per kilogram, FOB Talang Duku at IDR 14,950, Loco Ngabang at IDR 14,825 and Loco Kembayan at IDR 14,700. The published list excludes value-added tax. Delivery location and commercial terms differ, so the list should not be read as a single nationwide physical CPO price.

A separate InfoSAWIT Sumatera report said Thursday's Dumai tender opened at IDR 15,130 and was withdrawn after a top bid of IDR 15,118. Calling that bid a completed transaction would overstate the evidence. The reported Friday increase compares a Friday set price with a Thursday bid on a withdrawn tender.

Malaysian futures and a small reporting discrepancy

Bernama reported a RM26 rise for the January 2027 contract to RM4,818 per tonne at Friday's close. November and December contracts finished at RM4,587 and RM4,733 respectively. Trader David Ng told Bernama that export demand, firm energy prices and soybean oil gains helped sentiment, while elevated Malaysian inventories capped gains.

InfoSAWIT, citing Reuters, instead reported a RM25 gain to RM4,817 for the January contract. The RM1 difference between the two reports is left visible rather than silently reconciled. Bernama's directly accessed market report supplies the figure used in this article's opening; InfoSAWIT offers another published account of Friday's close.

What it means for Indonesia

Regional futures provide market context for Indonesian palm oil, not proof that local fresh fruit bunch (FFB) prices moved immediately. FFB prices vary by province, pricing period and producer scheme. The biodiesel market index price (HIP) also follows its own determination cycle; a one-day CPO rise does not itself establish a change in subsidised biodiesel blend (Biosolar) pump prices.

InfoSAWIT Sumatera separately relayed a Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) forecast that Malaysian CPO could remain above RM4,600 per tonne in November, citing expectations of a seasonal production decline and biodiesel demand. It is a forecast, not a realised November price. The report also notes potential constraints from weaker energy prices, inflation and softer-than-expected food demand.

For Indonesian biodiesel buyers, the KPBN figures describe domestic feedstock pricing points while Malaysian futures provide a regional reference. This is analysis, not a claim that the two prices are interchangeable. Contract month, tender status, date and delivery point should be checked separately; the official biodiesel HIP series has its own effective period.
