Malaysia Palm Futures Fall to RM4,616; Dumai KPBN Tender Rises

Malaysia's January palm futures fell on 29 October while Indonesia's Dumai physical tender rose a day earlier; October biodiesel HIP remains monthly.

Jakarta — Bursa Malaysia crude palm oil (CPO) futures for January 2027 fell RM69, or 1.47%, to RM4,616 per tonne on Thursday, 29 October 2026, according to Reuters in Business Recorder. The previous day's physical KPBN Inacom tender for CPO delivered Franco Dumai, by contrast, rose IDR 212 to IDR 15,100 per kilogram, Palm Oil Magazine reported. These figures refer to different markets, dates, currencies and transaction types. A fall in Malaysian futures does not establish that Indonesian physical tender prices fell on the same day.

Malaysia futures fall for a fourth session

Reuters said the January contract reached its lowest close since 9 October, extending a four-session decline. Weaker competing vegetable oils and concerns that Malaysia's end-October inventories may rise weighed on the market. A Kuala Lumpur trader cited rising near-term production in the report; that is market commentary, not a published final inventory figure for October.

Dalian soyoil and palm oil contracts and Chicago soyoil also slipped. A firmer ringgit made palm oil costlier for buyers using other currencies. Lower crude oil prices may make palm oil less attractive as biodiesel feedstock. But the report did not measure a change in Indonesian biodiesel consumption on 29 October, so such an impact cannot be inferred from that day's futures trade.

Dumai tender moved in the opposite direction

Palm Oil Magazine put KPBN Inacom's highest CPO tender offer for Franco Dumai at IDR 15,100 per kilogram on Wednesday, 28 October, up from IDR 14,888 the preceding day, excluding value-added tax. At other locations and delivery terms, FOB Talang Duku stood at IDR 14,850 and Loco PKS Ngabang and Kembayan at IDR 14,725 and IDR 14,600 per kilogram respectively. Those prices cannot be treated as a uniform nationwide price paid to all mills or smallholders.

The divergence was not confined to Malaysia. The same Palm Oil Magazine report said Rotterdam's November and December CPO contracts each lost US$20 per tonne on 28 October while the Dumai tender strengthened. Media Biodiesel's CPO price tracker displays the Malaysian futures settlement for 29 October and the KPBN tender from 28 October separately. Collapsing them into one same-day transaction would obscure their different timing, location and unit of account.

What it means for Indonesia

Palm oil is a major feedstock for Indonesia's biodiesel blend. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources' Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) set the October 2026 biodiesel market index price (HIP) at IDR 15,072 per litre plus transport costs, effective 1 October. Its published CPO-to-biodiesel conversion component is US$85 per tonne. HIP is a monthly official benchmark; one day's Malaysian futures fall does not automatically revise October HIP, the Biosolar pump price or actual biodiesel incentive payments.

As editorial analysis, Malaysian futures can signal regional sentiment, but assessing an effect on the B50 programme's cost requires the feedstock prices used in the HIP formula and the relevant diesel comparison price. Reuters linked weaker crude oil to palm oil's appeal as a biodiesel input; it did not establish a decline in Indonesian fresh fruit bunch prices caused by this session. KPBN tenders, Malaysian futures and monthly HIP should therefore be followed with their own dates and units clearly identified.
